Windows Live Messenger 2009: Instant messaging client

Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger) is an instant messaging client created by Microsoft that is currently designed to work with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Mobile.

Windows Live Messenger 2009 is currently in development and is expected to be released on February 10, 2009.

Important: The setup downloader will ask if you wish to install: Windows Live Movie Maker, Mail with Calendar synchronisation, Writer, Photo Gallery, Family Safety and the Outlook Connector.

New in this version:

• New revamped and refined user interface to follow suite with the rest of the Windows Live Wave 3 design
• Display pictures have been moved over to the left side of conversation windows.
• New “Groups” feature, which allows you to create a never ending group conversation between select contacts (via invitation)
• Ability to set your own “Scene”, by customizing the background image and color of the contact list
• Groups have been renamed to “Categories”
• New colored borders which appear around display pictures to quickly display the currently set status of that contact
• New Photo Sharing utility which allows contacts to quickly and easily
